Montenegro and Russia discuss enhancing tourism cooperation amid geopolitical challenges

Montenegro’s Minister of Tourism, Simonida Kordić, met with the Russian Ambassador to Montenegro, Aleksandr Petrovich Lukashik.

They noted that Russian tourists continue to visit Montenegro, although there has been a significant decline due to geopolitical events. Kordić emphasized Montenegro’s sincere desire for long-term peace and stability.

She stated that Montenegro’s priority remains joining the European Union, aiming for membership by the end of 2028. Montenegro has also taken over the chairmanship of the Europe Commission within the United Nations World Tourism Organization, which offers a potential framework for future cooperation.

The ambassador highlighted tourism, alongside sports, culture, and education, as key areas for expanded cooperation between the two countries.

The discussion also touched on migration flows of Russian and Ukrainian nationals in Montenegro, registered as tourists in the system. Kordić stressed the importance of accurately identifying this phenomenon to ensure precise tourist data, enabling timely responses and enhancing promotion and bilateral relations.
