Montenegro and Switzerland strengthen ties and focus on EU integration

Montenegro and Switzerland are committed to further enhancing cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, stated Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ervin Ibrahimović, and the newly appointed Swiss Ambassador to Podgorica, An Lugon-Mulan, on a non-residential basis.

Ibrahimović expressed satisfaction with the friendly relations between Montenegro and Switzerland and wished the ambassador a successful mandate, confident that the two countries would continue to improve cooperation across many sectors. He noted that the opening of Montenegro’s diplomatic and consular representation in Bern would significantly contribute to this effort.

He also highlighted the activities Montenegro is undertaking in terms of European integration, emphasizing that progress in the reform process is positively impacting the overall development and prosperity of the country.

Ibrahimović pointed out the significant potential for further dynamic cooperation in the economic sector, given that Switzerland is one of the leading foreign investors in Montenegro.

Lugon-Mulan noted that strengthening economic ties reflects the positive bilateral relations between the two countries. She confirmed that Switzerland would continue to provide strong support for Montenegro’s European aspirations, stressing the importance of the EU enlargement process not only for Montenegro but also for the stability and prosperity of the region and Europe.

The meeting also discussed current regional and global challenges and ways to intensify cooperation on a multilateral level.
