A strong partnership between the United Nations system and the Montenegrin government must be continued, alongside defining new joint development steps, agreed Finance Minister Novica Vuković and UN Resident Coordinator Diego Sorilja.
The meeting focused on joint initiatives supporting Montenegro’s sustainable development, with special emphasis on the Montenegro SDG Acceleration Fund, a key mechanism for mobilizing international and domestic resources to accelerate reforms and economic growth.
Sorilja highlighted the presence of 19 UN agencies operating in Montenegro and reaffirmed open support for the final phase of the integration process. He noted that future expert assistance will focus on better utilization of funds from green climate initiatives.
Vuković emphasized that the Ministry of Finance, responsible for one-third of the EU accession negotiation chapters, remains committed to strengthening partnerships with international organizations, prioritizing economic reforms, inclusive growth, and sustainable development.
It was also announced that a new UN Resident Coordinator will assume office in Montenegro in August. Vuković expressed gratitude to the outgoing coordinator for their dedicated work and contributions, and expressed optimism that the longstanding partnership between the government and the UN system will continue successfully and constructively in the next phase.
