The Government approved the urban-technical conditions for the construction of the Brajići wind farm, with the project submitted by the Podgorica-based company Vjetroelektrana – Budva.
The wind farm will be built on leased state land in the municipalities of Budva and Bar, covering several cadastral areas including Brajići, Kuljače, Utrg, Ovtočići, Tomići, and Brčeli.
The land lease contract was signed on August 26, 2020, between then-Minister of Economy Dragica Sekulić and Zoran Obradović, representing the WPD Brajići consortium, which includes WPD AG from Bremen and Vjetroelektrana Budva.
The wind farm is planned to have a capacity of over 100 MW, producing approximately 220 GWh of clean electricity annually—enough to power over 50,000 average households. The investment is estimated at over 100 million euros.
The project is notable for being developed without state subsidies or guaranteed premium prices, operating on market-based principles. The government considers the approach innovative for the region, aligning with European trends and creating a secure investment climate.
In March 2023, the government approved an annex to the land lease contract to adjust obligations and unblock the project’s progress, anticipating the detailed spatial plan to be completed within 12 months, enabling construction to begin.
The tender for the project was awarded to the German-Montenegrin consortium as the sole bidder, with an investment offer of 101.3 million euros for a 100.8 MW wind farm. The lease covers 235,462 square meters of state land for 30 years at a rate of 2.5 euros per square meter.
Wind potential studies were conducted between 2013 and 2017 under government permits, providing data to support the project’s feasibility.
This project marks a significant step in Montenegro’s renewable energy development and aligns with broader European efforts to transition to clean energy.
