Montenegro is focusing on the development of rural tourism, which is not only aimed at direct investments but also at actively involving local communities to create an authentic and diversified tourism product, said the Minister of Tourism, Simonida Kordić.
She participated in a ministerial roundtable on “Shaping Investment Opportunities in Tourism Through Innovative Policies” at the AIM Congress in Abu Dhabi.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Tourism, Kordić noted that market analyses clearly show that tourism has drastically changed, including the tastes within the tourism sector and the amount of time tourists spend in one place. She emphasized that this shift became especially apparent during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kordić pointed out that the change highlighted the need to focus on new trends and create policies that could adapt to these changes while managing tourism growth.
“In the context of Montenegro, these changes focus on the development of high-quality tourism. Modern tourists increasingly seek authentic experiences, both in terms of natural beauty and cultural heritage,” said Kordić.
She added that this shift is not unique to Montenegro, but also recognized by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which acknowledges these changes as well.
Kordić explained that what was traditionally considered a cultural tourism package is now something tourists wish to experience in a completely different way.
“Alongside the development of tourism offerings, it is equally important to invest efforts into preserving resources. We must strike a balance that ensures the preservation of nature while making it accessible to everyone. Sustainability remains the key focus of our policy,” Kordić emphasized.
She reminded that through the energy efficiency program, the Ministry of Tourism has actively supported the use of renewable energy sources, contributing to sustainable development and environmental preservation, while also ensuring the economic sustainability of the sector.
“Our current focus is on the development of rural tourism, which is not just focused on direct investments, but also on actively involving the local population to create an authentic, attractive, and diversified tourism product,” said Kordić.
She also mentioned that traditional luxury resorts, hotels, and high-end accommodations are not being overlooked.
“On the contrary, renowned hotel brands are present in Montenegro, positioning us in the luxury tourism market,” Kordić added.
The President of the AIM Congress and UAE Minister for Foreign Trade, Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyodi, stated that the event provides a crucial platform for the international community to gather, devise innovative investment strategies, and build a framework that ensures sustainable and inclusive growth for all.
