The Ministry of Energy and Mining has invited all interested parties to participate in the public consultation on the Draft National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) by August 6. This key strategic document will largely define the direction of the country’s energy and climate policy in the coming years.
The ministry emphasized that the plan holds strategic importance for Montenegro’s energy transition, obligations under Chapter 27 of the EU accession process, environmental improvement, and resilience to climate change.
The NECP will guide investments, EU fund support, and the work of all relevant sectors, including energy, transport, industry, agriculture, and waste management.
The ministry highlighted the importance of an inclusive approach, encouraging institutions, local governments, the academic and professional community, the private sector, and civil society to contribute their comments, proposals, and suggestions to improve the document.
Minister of Energy and Mining Admir Šahmanović stressed that openness and public involvement are crucial for making quality decisions.
“Energy and climate policy is not only a state responsibility – it is a shared duty. Therefore, I invite all stakeholders, especially NGOs, to take this opportunity to help create a realistic, ambitious, and fair plan,” Šahmanović said.
Comments and suggestions can be submitted in writing to the ministry’s address or electronically via email at ljiljana.maksimovic@meir.gov.me and nikola.vujosevic@ee-me.org by August 6. All feedback should be sent using the official form, which is available on the ministry’s website or the e-government portal.
After the consultation period ends, the ministry will publish a report summarizing the received comments and explaining how they were incorporated into the plan.
The ministry added that Montenegro has an opportunity to steer its energy and climate development toward long-term sustainability.
“It is important that this plan reflects the collective work, knowledge, and vision of all of us,” the statement concluded.
