The government is close to finalizing a decision on introducing a seven-hour workday, Prime Minister Milojko Spajić announced.
“After extensive discussions to find a model that satisfies both unions and employers, we can confirm that we are close to a solution regarding the implementation of a seven-hour workday,” Spajić said.
The Prime Minister’s Office stated that early next week, the Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Dialogue, Naida Nišić, will lead talks within the social dialogue framework with representatives of unions and employers to finalize this reform.
According to Spajić, the goal is to carry out one of the biggest labor reforms through broad consultations, aiming to improve citizens’ quality of life by providing more time for families, while also enhancing work efficiency and productivity.
“Similar to how the Europe Now programs 1 and 2 were implemented with the consent of both employers and unions, any concrete steps toward the seven-hour workday reform will be taken only with full support from social partners,” Spajić added.
He expressed confidence that Minister Nišić will do everything possible on behalf of the government to reach an agreement promptly, fulfilling citizens’ expectations and strengthening the position of all employees.
