Montenegro, PM said airports should be given under concession

Montenegro’s airports should be given a concession, with the fact that the price currently offered for the only two airports that the country has is meaningless, said Prime Minister Dritan Abazović and added that this is his personal opinion.

– What was the proposal of the concession act does not meet the needs of Montenegro at this moment. Maybe there was one price in 2018, 2019 or 2020, maybe it was meaningful then, I think it’s meaningless now – Abazović said at the press conference dedicated to the Bill on the Budget of Montenegro for the next year.

He believes that we should ask for an increase in total payments to the state, or go according to a new concession contract.

– We should know that Montenegro offered both airports, that we don’t have a third one, and that no one asked for it. I think that this is a wrong policy, and that putting the third airport into operation should be an activity – said Abazović.

He assessed that it is not important whether the Airports of Montenegro will generate a profit of ten, 20 or 30 million EUR, but that we have active airports and that as many people as possible come to Montenegro.

– It should not be a matter of logic whether airports generate profit. I personally think that the profit must be three times higher – added Abazović.

He said that he does not know if the decision on airports will be made in this mandate, but that his position is that 100 million is absolutely unacceptable.

– At least we should ask for double. My personal opinion is that it is better to give them for nothing than for EUR 100 million – concluded Abazović, local media reports.
