Montenegro is experiencing its highest annual inflation since May 2024, according to Boris Mugoša, head of the SD parliamentary club and European Union representative.

Data from MONSTAT for September show that inflation in Montenegro is more than double that of the eurozone. Key price increases include fruit (21.9%), pharmaceuticals (15.4%), oils and fats (14%), and water supply (24.1%).

Mugoša highlighted that food prices in Montenegro have nearly doubled over the past five and a half years compared to EU averages, pharmaceuticals have tripled, medical services increased 4–4.5 times, and toys 15 times. Annual inflation in Montenegro exceeds that of 19 out of 20 eurozone countries and 24 out of 27 EU member states, with only one regional country recording a higher rate.

He noted that inflation is not solely imported but largely driven by poor fiscal policies and structural vulnerabilities in the Montenegrin economy. Mugoša criticized the government for taking almost no measures to curb the sharp rise in prices.
