Montenegro sees 9.1% increase in active businesses in 2024

The number of business entities in Montenegro last year totaled 59,000, reflecting a 9.1% increase compared to 2023, according to data from Monstat.

“The highest number of active business entities last year was in Podgorica, with 20,950, accounting for 35.52% of the total. The smallest number was in Petnjica, with just 44, or 0.07% of the total,” the statement said.

Monstat further reported that, by ownership type, 99.53% of business entities in Montenegro were privately owned, a trend that also held true in 2023.

“The largest number of active business entities last year was in the wholesale and retail trade sector, along with motor vehicle and motorcycle repair, totaling 15,740, which represents 26.67% of the overall total,” the statisticians explained.

Additionally, small enterprises accounted for 99.33% of all active business entities in Montenegro last year.
