As of January 31st, 2025, there were 31,075 individuals registered with the Employment Agency of Montenegro, approximately 6,700 fewer than the same period last year, stated the agency’s director, David Perčobić, for the City RTV.

He mentioned that the unemployment rate is around 10%, with the highest rate in the north and the lowest along the coast.

Although the unemployment rate has been gradually decreasing in recent years, it is most pronounced in the northern region of the country, according to the Employment Agency.

Perčobić added that 76 companies were opened in the north last year, but the long-standing issue of supply and demand still remains.

“The number of available jobs in the north is very small, and therefore we are unable to match unemployed individuals with job opportunities. We do not have an adequate supply from the economy, so we focus on creating a better business environment in the north,” said Perčobić.

He emphasized that last year, through grants of up to 10,000 euros each, 76 companies were opened in the north.

“These companies are already operational. Additionally, I would like to highlight that, through self-employment grants funded by the EU, 476 businesses were opened across Montenegro, of which over 85% are successfully operating today,” Perčobić noted.

However, the issue of supply and demand remains, with the most difficulty in finding work being faced by recipients of social benefits and those over the age of 60.

“85% of those on the list are difficult to employ. These include users of family material security, numbering almost 7,000, and individuals with disabilities, who are entitled to certain benefits, with 10,000 individuals on the registry. Unfortunately, due to certain unfavorable legal provisions, which we are working to change in cooperation with the Ministry, these individuals face even greater challenges,” Perčobić added.

The Employment Agency has called on unemployed citizens to reach out to them, as they are offering career counseling, job preparation, and assistance with writing resumes and cover letters in their regional offices.
