Filip Radulović, the Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs, announced that Montenegro witnessed an increase in the import of cleaner technology cars, specifically vehicles meeting Euro 4, 5, and 6 standards. Speaking at the Green Mobility Summit organized by the Transport Community and GIZ in Sarajevo, Radulović stated that Montenegro’s initiative to promote electric and hybrid vehicles since 2021 has yielded positive results.
“The subsidies provided through the ECO FUND directly encourage environmentally friendly transportation, contributing to improved air quality and environmental preservation. These subsidies, ranging from 2,500 to 5,000 euros, demonstrate a clear commitment to transitioning towards cleaner transportation options,” Radulović said.
Montenegro’s efforts to restrict the import of older vehicles and introduce Euro 5 standards for used cars reflect its commitment to reducing emissions and promoting cleaner transportation practices, emphasized Radulović.
“The focus on promoting green transportation modes, enhancing safety, and improving overall quality of life underscores a comprehensive approach to urban transport development. This strategic alignment with EU directives and regional strategies positions Montenegro as a proactive participant in the transition towards smart and sustainable mobility,” Radulović emphasized.
Minister Radulović noted that Montenegro’s aviation sector is considering the acquisition of electric-powered equipment and solar energy projects, indicating a multifaceted approach to sustainable transportation. Highlighting the modernization of railways as a strategic priority for Montenegro, the minister emphasized the importance of upgrading the Bar-Vrbnica railway connecting the coast to the Serbian border, thereby linking the south and north regions. Additionally, the plan to reconstruct the Nikšić-Čapljina railway corridor is becoming more realistic, as this corridor is added to the TEN-T network.
During the “Green Mobility Summit,” the Declaration for Green Mobility was adopted, signaling a collective commitment to sustainable transportation initiatives.
