Electricity prices in Montenegro will remain stable until the end of the year, said Milutin Đukanović, Chairman of the Board of Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG), during an appearance on Info Plus at Adria TV.
He emphasized that maintaining stable prices requires strong development of renewable energy sources, highlighting that battery storage systems are the foundation for the country’s energy transition. Quoting Uglješa Urošević from the “Evropa Sad” movement, Đukanović stated: “Solar plants + battery systems = our oil.” He stressed that this opportunity must not be missed, as it will allow EPCG to guarantee low electricity prices while still generating profit.
Đukanović also highlighted the importance of EPCG Solar Gradnja, which recently marked four years of operation. He noted that approximately 8,600 new rooftop solar plants have been installed, generating electricity valued at over €13 million.
Regarding the ecological reconstruction of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant, he stated that operations are expected to resume on November 15, praising the management for their exceptional effort in achieving this milestone.
Looking at overall electricity supply, Đukanović confirmed that the country’s energy future is secure, but stressed the need for ongoing efforts. He noted that coal-based electricity production faces various taxes, which are expected to increase as Montenegro moves closer to EU integration.
He also pointed to ongoing renewable energy projects, including installed solar plants and the commencement of works at the Slano and Krupac hydroelectric dams, as well as active development at the Kapino Polje dam.
Regarding wind energy, Đukanović mentioned that the transport of wind turbines from Bar Port to the Gvozd plateau is expected to begin soon, potentially becoming a tourist attraction, as these will be among the largest wind turbines in Europe.
