At the end of August, corporate debt in Montenegro due to unpaid obligations reached €1.5 billion, according to the Central Bank. Over 21,000 companies are affected, with Export-Import Barać leading the list with a debt of over €190 million. Other companies with significant debts include Cijevna Komerc, Atlas Grupa, Duvan Komerc Mojkovac, and Vektra Boka.
The Central Bank has improved data processing, now updating information on blocked companies daily. This allows businesses to make informed decisions on whom to engage with based on financial reliability.
Additionally, from September 20, payment operations will be available on weekends, freeing up around €40 million in capital that was previously tied up. Vice Governor Zorica Kalezić highlighted that this measure will reduce the need for nearly 2 million short-term loans and provide liquidity support for businesses.
Statistics show that the number of blocked companies has increased by 2,200 compared to five years ago, while total corporate debt has doubled.
