Montenegro’s 2024 employment report: Active workforce, job growth and sector distribution

According to data from Monstat, Montenegro had 319.1 thousand active residents in the past year, with 282.6 thousand, or 88.6%, being employed.

Out of the total active population, 36.5 thousand, or 11.4%, were unemployed.

The number of employed individuals increased by 1.5% compared to the previous year, while the number of unemployed decreased by 12.7%.

Of the total active population, 175.3 thousand, or 54.9%, were men, while 143.8 thousand, or 45.1%, were women.

The survey shows that, out of the total number of employed individuals, 156.3 thousand, or 55.3%, were men, and 126.3 thousand, or 44.7%, were women. Of the total unemployed, 19 thousand, or 52.1%, were men, while 17.5 thousand, or 47.9%, were women.

“The largest number of employed individuals are in the age group of 25 to 49 years, with 175.2 thousand. Likewise, the largest number of unemployed individuals belong to the same age group, with 23.2 thousand,” Monstat representatives stated.

Employment structure by sectors reveals that the majority work in the service sector, with 76.6%, followed by non-agricultural sectors such as industry and construction at 19.1%, and agriculture, forestry, and fishing at 4.3%.

The survey covered 7,330 households.
