Montenegro’s Minister of Energy and Mining, Admir Šahmanović, held a meeting with the executive management and board members of the Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG) to discuss key aspects of the company’s operations. The meeting focused on the implementation of planned energy sector investments, especially in renewable energy, a strategic priority for Montenegro.
A major topic was the progress of the ecological reconstruction of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant, a project essential for aligning with EU environmental standards. The minister emphasized that the reconstruction must follow the planned timeline, highlighting its importance for both local communities and international commitments.
Discussions also addressed the upcoming implementation of the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which is expected to increase electricity export costs to the EU. EPCG was urged to adopt a responsible business strategy that anticipates regulatory changes and fiscal risks.
Other topics included the application of new laws related to energy poverty and the need for support programs for vulnerable consumers. The Ministry emphasized its commitment to social justice and fair energy access.
Attention was also given to the company’s profit distribution policies and donation practices, with a call for resource management based on transparency and strategic sustainability.
The EPCG leadership presented their activity plan through the end of 2025 and expressed readiness to meet priorities. The Ministry pledged to continue monitoring EPCG’s investment projects and overall performance to ensure alignment with public interest.
