Montenegro’s Maritime Ministry presents reform progress to EMSA in Lisbon

Montenegro’s Minister of Maritime Affairs, Filip Radulović, visited the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) headquarters in Lisbon, where he met with Executive Director Maja Markovčić Kostelac.

During the visit, Montenegro’s delegation presented a report on actions taken to address deficiencies identified during EMSA’s 2023 inspection. The Corrective Action Plan includes reforms in maritime education and training, verification of seafarer certificates (CoC), quality control enhancements, and the introduction of effective oversight and internal audits.

Minister Radulović emphasized that the reforms are both technical and institutional, noting that the ministry is undergoing reorganization to improve efficiency and transparency. He also highlighted investments in personnel, digitalization, and secure databases to ensure internationally recognized documentation.

EMSA’s director praised Montenegro’s efforts and expressed full support for the ministry’s reform initiatives, confident the country will align its maritime sector with international standards.
