The Government of Montenegro approved the Public Debt Report for December 31, 2024, which shows a total of 4.57 billion euros.
As stated, compared to the end of 2023, the public debt at the end of 2024 increased by 447.03 million euros in absolute terms and by 1.05 percentage points in relation to GDP.
The total public debt on December 31, 2024, amounts to 4.573 billion euros, or 61.32% of GDP. Taking into account the Ministry of Finance’s deposits (including 38,477 ounces of gold), which amounted to 385.36 million euros at the end of 2024, the net public debt of Montenegro on December 31, 2024, is 4.188 billion euros, or 56.15% of GDP, as noted in the report.
The government reminds that during 2024, the country issued a bond on the international market worth 750 million US dollars, or 687.76 million euros after hedging arrangements.
Additionally, a development policy loan of 180 million euros was concluded. During the same period, Montenegro drew 74.37 million euros from previously signed credit agreements. Regular debt repayment on existing loans amounted to 495.55 million euros, as stated in the report.
The government also highlights that the largest portion of the debt at the end of 2024 comes from state bonds issued on the international market, which make up 53.30% of the public debt.
