Montenegro’s transport statistics: Mixed trends in passenger and cargo traffic for Q3 2024

In the third quarter of this year (July, August, September), passenger transport, compared to the same quarter of the previous year, shows a 2.3% decrease in railway transport, an 11.5% increase in road transport, a 45.9% increase in local road transport, and a 17% increase in airport passenger transport, according to data from the Montenegrin Statistical Office (Monstat) on quarterly traffic statistics.

Montenegrin statisticians have calculated that cargo transport in the third quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year, shows a 35.3% decrease in railway transport, a 2.5% increase in road transport, a 3.3% decrease in total cargo traffic in ports, and an 18.3% increase in cargo transport at airports.

The number of tons handled in ports in the third quarter of 2024, compared to the same quarter last year, is down by 7.3%, and the number of manipulated tons is down by 7.9%.

The number of registered road motor and trailer vehicles in the third quarter was 86,960, which is an increase of 8.6% compared to the same period last year.

Monstat data show that the number of newly registered road motor and trailer vehicles in the third quarter of this year was 10,197, which is an increase of 24.5% compared to the same period last year.

The total number of traffic accidents in the third quarter of 2024 was 1,966, which is a 3.8% decrease compared to the same period last year.

The number of injured persons in the third quarter of this year was 1,008 (of which 987 were injured), which is a 4.6% increase compared to the same period last year, according to Monstat.
