Monteput has selected the offer of the Podgorica-based company Put Inženjering for the design of the Nikšić-Žabljak-Pljevlja expressway as the most favorable bid, worth €192,390. This project covers a 96-kilometer stretch of road, including the sub-sections from Nikšić to Šavnik, Šavnik to Žabljak, and Žabljak to Pljevlja, where bridges and tunnels will be constructed, according to Vijesti.

The subcontractors for the project will be the Podgorica firm Geot and Nikšić-based Geotehnika Montenegro. Monteput made this decision on February 14, with the option for an appeal within 10 days, meaning the selection is not final yet.

The tender, announced on the website of Montenegro’s electronic public procurement (CeJN), was published on December 24 last year and closed on January 27, with an estimated value of €205,000.

Monteput rejected a joint offer from the companies Decom Group and Louis Berger, deeming it incomplete due to the lack of clarity regarding the responsibility for designing the bridges on this section.

The purpose of the design documentation is to explore alternative solutions and define the optimal corridor for this expressway, with the work expected to be completed within six months from the contract signing.

The planned speed limit for vehicles on the road is 100 km/h, though lower speeds may be required depending on the terrain.

The expressway will cross the Komarnica Canyon, necessitating the evaluation of alternative solutions to ensure a more favorable crossing, both technically and in terms of preserving the Nevidio Canyon. Special attention will be given to crossing the Tara Canyon and the Durmitor National Park. This road will connect Nikšić, Žabljak, and Pljevlja with the Bar-Boljare highway and the Adriatic-Ionian highway.

The goal is also to improve the connection between the tourist destination of Žabljak and the industrial area of Pljevlja with the rest of Montenegro. The road will start at the Kapino Polje interchange, with similar interchanges planned for Vidrovan, Jasenovo Polje, Pošćenje, and Njegovuđa.
