The Ministry of Capital Investments (MKI) adopted a new Rulebook on the preparation of geological research projects, in order to enable the implementation of the adopted standards in the field of construction.

– Currently, the new Law on Geological Research is being drafted, and at the moment it is extremely uncertain when it will be adopted. With the entry into force of the new Law on Geological Surveys, it will be necessary to adopt a whole series of new by-laws, so, accordingly, this Rulebook will have to be completely adapted to the new legal solutions – the MKI explained.

However, while waiting for the new Law on Geological Surveys to be drafted and adopted, the harmonization of construction laws with EU directives imposed the necessity of amending the existing Rulebook, in order to enable the implementation of the adopted construction standards.

Eurocodes are European standards intended for the calculation of constructions in the design of buildings and engineering structures, as well as other works and products in construction, which are in line with the requirements of the European Directive on construction products – explained from MKI.

– Experiences from Italy, after the earthquake in Aquila in 2009, clearly show that mayors, chief city architects, designers, contractors, members of the committee for technical acceptance of buildings, building owners, high-ranking officials of the Government of Italy, were sentenced to prison terms for criminal offenses of murder negligently and the demolition of buildings, and for causing serious bodily injury and a whole series of other criminal acts committed against the victims of the buildings destroyed in the earthquake – the MKI stated.

They were also sentenced to pay multimillion-dollar damages to the families of the victims.
