Montenegro’s financial strain: Over 20,000 businesses blocked with debt reaching 1.37 billion EUR

According to data from the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG), as of the end of January, 20,910 companies and entrepreneurs were in financial blockade, representing a 0.03% increase compared to the end of December.

The total amount of debt for which accounts were blocked reached 1.37 billion EUR, a 1.26% rise compared to December.

The concentration of debt is relatively high, as reported by the CBCG, with the top ten largest debtors, or 0.05% of all registered entities, accounting for 32.71% of the total blocked amount. These ten debtors have blocked accounts totaling 448.85 million EUR.

According to the data, 51.86% of the total blocked amount, or 711.76 million EUR, belongs to the 50 largest debtors, who make up 0.24% of all registered entities.

A total of 1,740 debtors, whose accounts were blocked for up to one year, owed 23.47 million EUR, which accounts for 1.71% of the total blocked amount.

More than one year of blockage affected 19,170 companies or entrepreneurs, with a total of 1.35 billion EUR in blocked funds.
