Passenger and cargo transport trends: Growth in road and airport, decline in rail

Passenger transport in the fourth quarter of last year saw an increase in road, local road and airport traffic, compared to the same period in 2023, while rail transport recorded a decline.

According to Monstat data, the number of passengers transported by rail dropped by 6.3%, while road transport increased by 18.7%, local road transport by 14.2%, and airport passenger transport by 9%.

Cargo transport in the fourth quarter, compared to the same quarter of 2023, saw a 19% decrease in rail transport, a 5.3% drop in road transport, and a 17.8% decline in total cargo traffic in ports. However, cargo transport at airports grew by 25.5%.

The number of tons transshipped in ports in the fourth quarter of last year was 13.8% lower than in the same quarter of 2023, while manipulated cargo was 1.7% higher.

Statisticians reported that the number of registered road motor vehicles and trailers in the fourth quarter of last year was 78.8 thousand, marking a 6.3% increase compared to the same quarter in 2023. Additionally, the number of newly registered road vehicles in the fourth quarter of last year was 8,170, which is 0.4% more than in the same quarter of 2023.
