Payment system handles €2.26 billion in July, new RTS/X platform enhances infrastructure

In July, over 21 working days, Montenegro’s payment transactions totaled €2.26 billion, according to the Central Bank (CBCG). About 93% of the volume was processed through the Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system, with the remainder via the Deferred Net Settlement (DNS) system.

A total of 1.43 million payment orders were executed, 40.7% in RTGS and the rest in DNS. The average daily transaction volume was 68,080 orders, with an average daily value of €107.81 million. System availability remained high at 99.68%, with just 37 minutes of downtime in 11,450 minutes of operation.

In May, CBCG launched a new generation national payment system, RTS/X, fully aligned with ISO 20022 standards, marking the most significant technological and functional upgrade to Montenegro’s payment infrastructure since its establishment in 2005.
