The Pension and Disability Insurance Fund (PIO) has informed users of proportional pensions that it is necessary to submit a request to the relevant authorities for the payment of the difference up to the amount of the minimum pension in Montenegro.
The request should be submitted to the relevant regional units and the Department for the Implementation of Foreign Insurance.
Users of proportional pensions must, among other things, provide a copy of their ID card, proof of residence and a confirmation or certificate from the foreign insurer about the last paid pension.
“If the pensioner receives pensions from multiple countries, they must provide a confirmation or certificate from each of them,” explained the PIO Fund.
Along with the request, users should also provide a copy of the decision recognizing the right to a pension from the foreign insurer.
“If the pensioner receives pensions from multiple countries, they must submit a copy of the decision from each of them,” the PIO Fund added.
Additionally, users are required to submit a notarized statement or a statement from the competent court, committing to report any changes in the amount of foreign pensions, should they occur.
“To prevent abuse, users will provide a statement declaring that, under full material and criminal responsibility, they will report any changes in the amount of foreign pensions within 15 days of such changes, as well as any changes affecting the right or extent of the use of that right,” the PIO Fund said.
The PIO Fund reminded that the amendments to the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance, which came into effect on Monday, stipulate that proportional pension users will receive a payment equal to the difference up to the lowest pension in Montenegro.
“The new provision of the PIO Law states that an insured person who has acquired the right to a proportional pension in accordance with an international agreement and is residing in Montenegro is entitled to an amount equal to the difference up to the lowest pension, if their pension, calculated according to this law and foreign pensions based on the applicable exchange rate on the date of the request for the payment of the difference, is lower than the amount of the minimum pension determined under Article 29 of this law,” said the PIO Fund.
The difference will be paid starting from the first day of the following month after the request is submitted.
