The Mayor of Podgorica, Prof. Dr. Saša Mujović, met with representatives of KfW Bank, one of the key financial institutions involved in the construction project for the wastewater treatment plant, in order to find a sustainable solution as soon as possible.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Mayor Boris Spalević, Secretary for Finance Balša Špadijer, and the Director of the City Enterprise “Vodovod i Kanalizacija” Aleksandar Nišavić.
Mayor Mujović emphasized that time must not be wasted, highlighting that the issue of the collector is of crucial importance for the citizens of Podgorica. He also pointed out that, despite the urgency of resolving this problem, he personally feels a special sensitivity towards the residents of Botun, where the wastewater treatment plant was originally planned to be built.
The Mayor stressed that the city administration is actively working on finding an alternative location in order to reach a compromise solution that will satisfy everyone, while also shortening the waiting time to begin construction of this vital plant for the capital city.
Representatives from KfW Bank detailed the potential challenges related to changing the location, including increased costs, delays in implementation, and the activation of certain contractual clauses. Any changes could lead to additional financial obligations, which could amount to millions, putting pressure on the project’s budget. Additionally, changing the location would result in longer administrative and technical procedures and trigger multiple penalties for the City of Podgorica.
KfW Bank representatives also reminded about the contractual obligations, which could lead to new legal and financial implications if the location is altered.
Despite these challenges, the meeting was productive and conducted in a cooperative atmosphere. Mayor Mujović expressed confidence that, in collaboration with KfW Bank and other relevant stakeholders, the best possible solution for this crucial infrastructure project will be reached.
