The storm that struck Montenegro on July 2 inflicted significant damage on the Port of Bar, a crucial economic resource for both the city and the nation. MP Momčilo Leković from the Democratic Party has underscored the urgent need for support to address the damages, warning that the port’s challenges could have broader repercussions for the economy and its overall flows.
Leković emphasized that the Port of Bar is essential to Montenegro’s economic framework, thanks not only to its strategic location but also to its role in international trade, transportation and regional connectivity.
“The seamless operation of the Port of Bar is critical for economic growth and maintaining a stable business climate in the country. The port serves as a central hub for economic activities, and its recovery is vital for the stability of logistics and transportation networks. Investing in the restoration of the Port of Bar is not just about aiding the local community; it’s also about safeguarding a strategic national asset. The port directly supports the employment of hundreds and is key to Montenegro’s ongoing economic advancement,” he stated.
He pointed out that a rapid response is necessary to mitigate potential revenue losses and preserve the country’s reputation as a dependable international partner in maritime transport.
“Right now, our foremost priority must be the restoration and stabilization of the Port of Bar’s operations to avert long-term negative effects on Montenegro’s economy,” Leković concluded.
The Port of Bar is more than just a shipping facility; it is a cornerstone of Montenegro’s development.
