The Ministries of Interior and Transportation and Maritime Affairs have collaborated to facilitate the operations of border services at the Port of Bar border crossing, paving the way for the establishment of the Ancona-Bar-Durres ferry route.
During a meeting at the Port of Bar, it was acknowledged that the decision to open border crossings for international maritime, air, and rail traffic had already initiated the Port of Bar border crossing for international maritime traffic. Additionally, by specifying ports based on the type of maritime traffic, the Port of Bar was designated for international maritime traffic.
The focal point of the meeting, organized by the Ministries of Interior and Transportation and Maritime Affairs, was to outline a dynamic plan to ensure adequate conditions at the Port of Bar border crossing for international maritime traffic in preparation for launching the Ancona-Bar-Durres ferry route, or the Durres-Bar-Ancona route, starting from July 3.
“Agreed activities aim to establish suitable conditions for the functioning of border services at the Port of Bar crossing. All relevant authorities have coordinated measures and activities to ensure timely preparation for the opening of this ferry line at the Port of Bar border crossing,” the statement noted.
Representatives from the Police Administration – Border Police, Customs Administration, Maritime Safety and Port Management Directorate, and the Bar Harbor Master’s Office presented user requirements concerning technical specifications, spatial arrangements, IT integration, and equipment necessary for efficient operations. Meanwhile, operators at the Port of Bar – Port of Adria Bar and Port of Bar pledged to undertake actions, in compliance with the Law on Border Control, to ensure the organized and equipped conduct of border controls.
“The Municipality of Bar will extend support within its jurisdiction to implement this initiative. The Ministries of Interior and Transportation and Maritime Affairs, along with Bar Shipping, police, customs, maritime safety and port management authorities, and the Bar Harbor Master’s Office, will promptly undertake the requisite personnel and technical preparations to fulfill obligations related to the establishment of this ferry line,” the statement elaborated.
The introduction of this ferry route is poised to bolster the tourist economy, enhance tourist offerings, and improve Montenegro’s accessibility by sea.
The meeting saw participation from representatives of the Ministries of Interior and Transportation and Maritime Affairs, Bar Shipping, Border Police, Customs Administration, Maritime Safety and Port Management Directorate, Bar Harbor Master’s Office, and operators at the Port of Bar – Port of Adria Bar and Port of Bar.
