Mohamed Alabar, founder of Emaar Properties and president of Eagle Hills, has decided to forgo nine beaches at Ulcinj’s Velika Plaža and allow local competitors from Montenegro to manage them, as confirmed by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić after a meeting with the Mayor of Ulcinj, Genci Nimanbegu. They discussed the tender for the beaches during their meeting.
Spajić emphasized the importance of Montenegro’s development and attracting leading global investors. He conveyed the message from Emaar and Eagle Hills, highlighting their interest in presenting their vision for the development of Velika Plaža and a leading European tourism project.
Spajić also announced that the government would renew the economic cooperation agreement with the United Arab Emirates, which expired in 2022. This agreement will serve as a foundation for future large-scale development projects in Montenegro’s north and south.
The prime minister mentioned discussions with local political parties about the interests of both the local community and the state. He assured that the government would approach large-scale projects with a thoughtful, collaborative approach, partnering with local authorities.
On Spajić’s initiative, Alabar decided to hand over the beaches he had won in the tender, which had previously been leased to local entrepreneurs, allowing them to keep the beaches at the prices they bid for.
Mayor Nimanbegu acknowledged the importance of the potential project for the municipality and stressed that such matters require careful discussion and consideration of all arguments. He welcomed the government’s new approach under Prime Minister Spajić’s leadership, showing openness to investors and the local community’s needs.
Political party representatives in the Ulcinj Assembly expressed gratitude to the prime minister for his openness in addressing significant development projects that take local community specifics into account.
