Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić emphasized that the goal of all international visits is to promote the potential of Montenegro, but achieving major investments requires synergy between central and local governments. He stressed that the government’s role is to create opportunities, while local management must facilitate the realization of large projects to ensure a better standard of living.

Spajić held a meeting with the presidents of southern municipalities in Montenegro to discuss investment opportunities and investor interest. He shared insights from previous meetings aimed at promoting the country’s investment potential, highlighting increased interest from investors but also the lack of initiative and responsiveness from local governments.

Spajić also pointed out that new investments have a positive impact on local entrepreneurs by creating opportunities for business growth. He emphasized the importance of improving the business environment and creating opportunities for local employment.

The government has also renewed an agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for economic cooperation, which expired in 2022. This agreement will form the basis for cooperation in various sectors, including large tourism development projects in the south and north of the country.

The meeting was attended by municipal leaders from Tivat, Budva, Bar, Kotor, Herceg Novi and Ulcinj, who supported the prime minister’s initiative to involve local communities in development policy decisions. They highlighted the importance of planning documents, infrastructure, and resolving property issues for the successful realization of development projects.

Bar’s President Dušan Raičević emphasized the municipality’s past experience with losing credible investors and urged the government not to overlook Bar when negotiating intergovernmental agreements with the UAE, citing potential projects like the Port of Bar and the airport.

The prime minister concluded by stating that attracting new investments to Montenegro is a shared goal for all levels of government. He stressed the importance of understanding and sensitivity toward credible investors, as it directly affects the country’s image as an investment destination. Political and personal interests should not hinder Montenegro’s development, and the country cannot afford to miss out on opportunities for growth.
