Reactivation and upgrade of 35 kV Gradiošnica-Tivat power line to boost electricity supply quality during tourist season

The 35 kV Gradiošnica-Tivat power line will be reactivated today between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., improving electricity supply quality for users in the Tivat area during the tourist season, the Montenegrin Electric Distribution System (CEDIS) announced.

Since 2015, the power line was disconnected due to illegal construction along its route, which endangered its safety. Since then, two underground cable lines (Tivat 1 and Tivat 3) have been the only connection supplying users from the 35/10 kV Tivat substation.

CEDIS highlighted ongoing challenges with these cable lines, including frequent mechanical damages caused by construction machinery, which compromised the reliability of power supply in the municipality of Tivat. Maintenance teams have installed numerous cable joints to repair faults, but the repeated damage has permanently affected the cables’ insulation and reliability.

Significant efforts by the CEDIS maintenance teams since the end of the last tourist season included installing poles and equipment at 18 locations, stringing conductors, and replacing necessary equipment, enabling the power line to be safely energized again with approval from the Energy Inspection.

The investment value for materials, equipment, and adaptation works exceeds 400,000 euros.

After the tourist season, CEDIS plans to further modernize the power line with an investment of over 150,000 euros by installing a higher-capacity composite conductor. This upgrade aims to improve power supply quality until new energy infrastructure is built, especially during the tourist season. Maintenance will be carried out by the CEDIS 20 kV and 35 kV Maintenance Sector.
