Reconstruction of the Tara Bridge, one of Montenegro’s most recognizable landmarks and a major tourist attraction, is progressing according to plan. The work is divided into two phases — the rehabilitation of the bridge itself and the reconstruction of access roads, said civil engineer Nikola Šegrt.
“We have three access routes: from Pljevlja, Žabljak, and Mojkovac. Work on these sections is progressing at different rates. The goal is to complete the base asphalt layer this year so that the roads remain in good condition during winter. On the bridge, we are currently working on two segments on the Žabljak side, known as segments C and 4B, and the aim is to finish the lower structure — the arches, main beams, and pillars — in accordance with the reconstruction plan,” Šegrt explained.
The president of the Pljevlja municipality, Dario Vraneš, also expressed satisfaction with the progress, both on the bridge and on the access roads.
“Once the reconstruction is completed, this entire area will gain a new value. The bridge will be magnificent, illuminated, with new tourist facilities and parking areas — a new era for this region,” Vraneš said.
The works, valued at €6.64 million, are financed by a donation from the People’s Republic of China and carried out by the Chinese company Shandong Lujiao Group.
