The Vice President of the Socialist People’s Party (SNP) and Minister of Sports and Youth, Dragoslav Šćekić, has expressed support for the boycott of retail chains, emphasizing that it demonstrated the power of collective action and the need for all societal actors to work in the best interest of the citizens.

In a statement issued on Social Justice Day, Šćekić noted that a just society is not only an ideal but also an obligation for those who have taken responsibility to serve the public.

Social justice, he emphasized, entails equality, dignified working conditions, consumer protection, and equal access to basic goods for all citizens.

According to an SNP press release, Šćekić said he understood the legitimate concerns of citizens regarding prices and market conditions.

“The boycott of retail chains has demonstrated the strength of the collective voice and the need for all actors in society, from institutions to businesses, to act in the interest of the people,” the statement read.

Šćekić added that the SNP, as a party of social justice, has been dedicated for three decades to fighting for the rights of workers, pensioners, and the socially vulnerable, and that the party remains committed to protecting the economic security of the population, especially the most vulnerable groups.

He also pointed out that the rising prices of basic goods have significantly reduced the value of social benefits, further exacerbating the living conditions of society’s most vulnerable.

“Aware of this reality, I will continue to advocate, as Minister of Sports and Youth, President of the Child Rights Council, and Vice President of the SNP, for the increase in child allowances, because investing in children and youth is not just an economic issue, but a fundamental responsibility of any responsible society,” Šćekić said.

Social justice, he concluded, is not just a slogan.

“It is a principle by which we will continue to build a fairer Montenegro,” Šćekić emphasized.
