According to a report from the Deputy Prime Minister for Political System, Judiciary, and Anti-Corruption, Momo Koprivica, the Tax Administration has identified irregularities in the company Bemax, as stated by his office.

Koprivica claims that, on June 17, 2024, following an analysis, he submitted an initiative to the Tax Administration for the application of Article 37e, paragraph 3 of the Income Tax Law, regarding what he describes as the evident abuse committed by the former and current owners of Bemax, with the clear intention of avoiding taxes and causing significant harm to the state budget, while also undermining the legal system. He asserts that this cannot be allowed in the name of justice and the rule of law.

“On March 3 of this year, I received a notification from the Tax Administration stating that they had conducted activities on this case, with a positive outcome for the state, the budget, and the public interest,” Koprivica said.

He added that this serves as confirmation of the legitimacy and foundation of the initiative and a proof of the validity of the fight against abuse.

“Above all, it is an indicator that our institutions, such as the Tax Administration, are undergoing significant reforms, becoming professional, strong, non-selective, and independent institutions,” the statement reads.

Koprivica further stated that in this case of “a drastic attempt to circumvent the law,” Veselin Kovačević, the former owner of Bemax, and Ivan Ubović signed a contract on July 1, 2022, for the transfer of ownership for a price of 750,000 euros.
