The idea of far-flung travel may seem like a wish list item at the moment, but the desire to seek out new experiences and locations will always keep exotic getaways at the top of international travelers’ minds. Enter the new Nikki Beach Hotel & Beach Club Montenegro.
When I ask Nikki Beach Worldwide CEO Lucia Penrod why they chose Montenegro to be the fifth in the brand’s portfolio of resort destinations, she responds with the knowledge and instinct-driven savvy that has made Nikki Beach a magnet for the global jet set. “Location is so important for us. We detected a trend in Montenegro on the early side. Additionally, as a top megayacht destination with incredible coastlines and exceptional views, we knew that Montenegro was a wise choice for the brand. The property is the ideal backdrop for our barefoot luxury vibe.”
I can attest to that, as I was lucky enough to recently experience firsthand everything this 45-room boutique resort has to offer, from its awe-inspiring scenery straight out of a James Bond film to its incredible amenities. A day at the property is meant to inspire and excite, including a bountiful breakfast and late-morning relaxation with your choice of four pools. Long known for its high-octane energy, the heart of Nikki Beach will always be its afternoons spent listening and dancing to music. Everything from chill house, happy house, Afro house and Latin house sets an oh-so-chic soundtrack as DJs and saxophonists keep the excitement up and the electricity in the air heats up along with the sun. Combined with the resort’s idyllic setting, with its breathtaking views of the Bay of Tivat and Lady of Mercy Island, it’s no wonder the Nikki Beach team has planted its flag in this piece of paradise.
Excursions off property are a plus—a quick 10-minute water taxi ride whisked me away to equally intriguing and somewhat mysterious Porto Montenegro, where one can shop and dine with the feeling of a European film star escaping the paparazzi—but there really is no reason to leave the hotel’s lush environs. A capacity of 250 ensures that you’re able to relax and unwind, with a fully operational luxury spa and gym and all-day dining with bountiful fish platters and fresh sushi. Cocktails are crafted with care by an attentive staff who are well-versed in the brand’s signature six elements: music, dining, entertainment, fashion, film and art. What separates Nikki Beach Montenegro from other locations? “This is our first resort brand offering in the Balkans, which is one of Europe’s most vibrant and culturally diverse ecosystems,” explains Alexander Schneider, president of Global Nikki Beach Hotels and Resorts. “Meanwhile, Montenegro as a singular destination is perhaps the uncut diamond within this macro region. Its unique beauty and culture, great authentic cuisine, unique sense of hospitality and breathtaking nature makes this the new place to be.” And while “barefoot luxury” may be the brand’s mantra, I had no problem keeping my Gucci slides ever-present to explore every inch of the magical surroundings. Fully recharged with all senses inspired, my jaunt to Montenegro created lasting memories—and eager anticipation for the next otherworldly, unexpected destination created by Nikki Beach, Gotham writes.
