Montenegro records 2.6 million tourist arrivals and 15.59 million overnight stays in 2024

In Montenegro, preliminary data from Monstat shows that in the past year, there were 2.6 million tourist arrivals and 15.59 million overnight stays.

Of the total number of overnight stays, 96.1% were by foreign tourists, while 3.9% were by domestic tourists.

Among foreign tourists, the highest number of overnight stays was recorded by visitors from Serbia (23.5%), Russia (18.3%), Bosnia and Herzegovina (8.4%), Turkey (4.9%), Germany (4.7%), Ukraine (4.3%), and the United Kingdom (3.8%).

Tourists from other countries accounted for 32.1% of overnight stays.

Regarding the types of tourist destinations, most overnight stays were in coastal areas (93.8%), followed by mountain destinations (2.2%), the capital city (2.6%), and other locations (1.5%).

Monstat also reported that in individual accommodation, there were 1.16 million tourist arrivals and 10.39 million overnight stays last year.

Of the total overnight stays in individual accommodation, 99.6% were by foreign tourists, while 0.4% were by domestic tourists.

Among foreign tourists, the highest number of overnight stays was recorded by visitors from Serbia (25.4%), Russia (24.9%), Bosnia and Herzegovina (9.7%), Turkey (5.2%), Ukraine (4.8%), Germany (3.7%), and Poland (2.1%).

Tourists from other countries accounted for 20.9% of overnight stays.

In individual accommodation, most overnight stays were in coastal areas (96.3%), followed by mountain destinations (1.9%), other tourist areas (1.2%), and the capital city (0.5%).

According to Monstat’s preliminary data, in January this year, there were 34.77 thousand tourist arrivals and 73.87 thousand overnight stays in collective accommodation.

Of the total overnight stays in collective accommodation, 74.8% were by foreign tourists, while 25.2% were by domestic tourists.

In terms of types of tourist destinations in January, most overnight stays occurred in coastal areas (51.7%), followed by the capital city (21.2%), mountain areas (20.2%), and other destinations (6.9%).

Collective accommodation includes hotels, guesthouses, motels, tourist resorts, holiday villages, hostels, and campsites, but excludes individual or private accommodation, such as stays in houses, rental rooms, and tourist apartments.
