Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) announced that the ecological reconstruction of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant is progressing on schedule, with the plant set to be operational on 15 November 2025 as planned.
EPCG addressed recent “inaccurate and biased” media reports regarding project timelines, emphasizing that the project, launched in 2020, faced initial technical shortcomings that the company has since corrected. All works are now under full EPCG control and aligned with European environmental standards.
The plant will begin trial operations on 15 November, including hot and cold testing, system fine-tuning, and synchronization of all facilities. EPCG stressed that this is a standard technical and legal commissioning phase, not a delay.
All issues identified during construction have been resolved, with enhanced oversight and active involvement from the main contractor, Chinese state company DEC. Domestic and regional subcontractors were also engaged to accelerate progress without additional costs.
EPCG rejected claims that the project risks delays or threatens Montenegro’s energy system, highlighting that it will ensure long-term stability and compliance with EU environmental directives. The company reaffirmed that the 15 November start date remains unchanged.
