The President of the Municipality of Ulcinj, Genci Nimanbegu, has urged members of Montenegro’s Parliament not to support the agreements with the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He voiced his concerns during a session of the Parliamentary Committee for International Relations and Diaspora.

“What is being planned is not good for a multi-ethnic, multi-religious Montenegro. These agreements raise a valid question: where is the public interest in all of this? What benefit does the public get from someone building real estate?” Nimanbegu stated.

He claimed that the agreement is unlawful and serves narrow, private interests rather than the general public.

“The agreement is not in the general interest—it’s particular and specific. I’ve had seven meetings with the Prime Minister since March 12, and I know details that would make your head spin. But I’m not going public with them,” he said.

Nimanbegu also questioned the overall objective of the proposed project, adding, “Someone wants to build a city within a city. Who needs that?”

The government’s agreements with the UAE are expected to be presented to Parliament today. A live broadcast will be available on the Parliamentary Channel.
