The significance of the opening of that line goes beyond the immediate benefits, given that Austrian Airlines is part of the largest European network of air carriers, the Lufthansa Group, as well as being a member of the first global network of international airlines, Star Alliance – the announcement stated.

The Lufthansa Group representative for Montenegro and Serbia, Katarina Bailla, said that the opening of the new route from Vienna to Tivat proves that Montenegro is an important market for the company.
As a result of the high demand for travel to Montenegro, Austrian Airlines responded with an offer of three weekly flights on the route Vienna – Tivat. With two daily rotations on the route Vienna-Podgorica, Austrian Airlines will have a total of 17 weekly rotations to Montenegro – said Bailla.

She reminded that, during the season, since 2018, Tivat has been connected to Frankfurt and Munich via Lufthansa. In addition, Eurowings connects Tivat with Dusseldorf and Stuttgart, while Edelweiss will also operate from Zurich starting this summer.

All these are indicators of the decisive presence of the Lufthansa Group in Montenegro. During this summer, our companies will connect Montenegro with Austria, Germany and Switzerland with 25 weekly rotations – announced Bailla.

She added that she believes that direct lines from Tivat to Frankfurt, Munich and Vienna are very important, and that the vital incentive for the further development of Montenegro is the improvement of air availability.

The director of the National Tourist Organization (NTO), Ana Tripković Marković, stated in a written statement that Montenegro is already a well-known destination on the Austrian market, and that during the previous years, growing trends were also recorded when it comes to visits from that market.

– We are very pleased that another Montenegrin city will be connected to Austria, which proves that there is a growing interest in our country. This is also shown by statistical data, according to which the arrival of around 27.3 thousand tourists from Austria was recorded in Montenegro during the previous year, which is twice as much compared to the same period in 2021 – said Tripković Marković.

She added that NTO participated in the leading fair in Austria this year, and that a group of media from Austria is expected already next month, as well as numerous other promotional activities for that market.
The opening of the direct line Vienna-Tivat, apart from for the whole of Montenegro, was also welcomed by the local tourist organization.

Bearing in mind that until now tourists from Vienna came to Tivat via Podgorica, this undertaking is very significant. It is clear that air accessibility, i.e. quick and easy arrival, is a prerequisite for us to be as attractive a destination as possible – said TO Tivat director Nina Lakičević, noting that they are ready to welcome the season, which they believe will be a record one.

At the same time, the new airline means benefits for the Airports of Montenegro, said the president of the board of directors, Eldin Dobardžić.

“From January to the beginning of May, we served over half a million passengers. This is 13 percent more compared to the comparable period of 2019, which means that we are maintaining the dynamics of growth. The new route Vienna-Tivat is a flywheel, and we believe that there will be more , so we expect the key months of the summer season with real optimism,” said Dobardžić.
