Podgorica has allocated 1.4 million euros for adaptation work and installation of a climate-control system, including heating, at the Pobrežje Shopping Centre market. Mayor Saša Mujović, who visited the site on 29 October 2026, said heating would be in use by the end of the year.
The market has had no adequate climate control for 19 years, leaving tenants and people who come to trade without suitable working conditions, Mujović said. The works are under way at the city market, which is managed by Podgorica’s market management company, Tržnice i pijace.
Pobrežje is the second stage of investment in the city’s markets, following work at the Bazar Shopping Centre. The value of the completed Bazar market works was 327,733 euros; Mujović described the first-stage investment as more than 300,000 euros, intended to improve working conditions and support normal trading.
At Bazar, the complete LED lighting system was replaced, air conditioning was installed and visual changes were made. The work aimed to improve conditions for tenants, employees and members of the public who use the building daily, while creating a more functional and pleasant setting for sellers and buyers.
Plans for Pobrežje include solar panels to improve the building’s energy efficiency and resurfacing the floor with suitable material. The stated objective is for the market’s electricity generation and heating needs to be covered through its own production.
Ivan Bojović, director of Tržnice i pijace, described the Pobrežje works as the start of a new investment cycle at the company’s facilities. He said the company would continue investing in modernising all its buildings and improving service quality.
