Montenegro’s Finance Minister Novica Vuković met an OTP Group delegation to discuss expanding their financial partnership into future investment, infrastructure and development projects, according to the Finance Ministry. OTP has previously helped finance Montenegro’s budget needs and strengthen its fiscal reserves, including through syndicated loans.
The talks also covered the development of Montenegro’s government securities market and ways to connect the country with new sources of international capital. The two sides discussed past cooperation, current macroeconomic and fiscal trends, and Montenegro’s path towards membership of the European Union.
OTP Bank Chief Executive Péter Csányi led the delegation, which included OTP Group Deputy Chief Executive László Wolf. Bernadett Dancsné Engler, chair of the Supervisory Board of OTP Bank in Montenegro, and Tamás Kamarási, chair of its Management Board, also attended. Nikola Perišić, a Management Board member responsible for corporate clients, was part of the group. The ministry described OTP Group as one of the region’s leading banking groups.
Investment and capital market options
Vuković said Montenegro wanted to extend its long-standing financial relationship with OTP to projects that would support longer-term economic growth. “We want to take the existing partnership to a new level,” he said. He also said the country wanted to turn that relationship into concrete investments, new projects and more opportunities for businesses.
The meeting included a presentation of positive economic and fiscal indicators, covering growth in the economy, employment, wages and investment, as well as an improvement in Montenegro’s credit rating. The participants also considered progress in EU accession negotiations and the opportunities membership could offer domestic businesses, investors and the financial sector.
Vuković said European integration, access to the EU single market and European structural and cohesion funds could create scope for investment, infrastructure development, the energy transition and stronger competitiveness. He said Montenegro would need reliable international financial partners in its next development phase and that OTP Group’s regional experience and international presence could help deliver its development priorities.
Past financial cooperation, including syndicated loan arrangements, and Montenegro’s European outlook were presented as a basis for a broader investment partnership. The participants expressed interest in continuing their dialogue to identify opportunities for cooperation, with a focus on financial stability, investment and sustainable economic development.
