Andrija Nikolić, head of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) parliamentary group in Montenegro’s parliament, asked its leadership to ensure Finance Minister Novica Vuković attends the first upcoming session for questions to ministers and sets out his position on the Euro model. Vuković did not vote for it when the government considered it, Nikolić said.
The minister had indicated he would give his position within a few days. 47 days later, the Ministry of Finance had not stated its view. The Euro model would completely change the structure of Montenegro’s economy and is valued at close to 1 billion euros.
Vuković was absent from parliament this week to answer lawmakers and was not on the schedule for questions. The parliamentary questions process for ministers began last week, and Democratic Party lawmakers had submitted seven questions for him.
Nikolić asked Vuković to explain why he did not support the model, identify what he considered problematic and say whether he would take responsibility for its implementation as finance minister. The Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG) and the Fiscal Council were also urged to issue expert assessments of the model’s financial and fiscal consequences.
