Montenegro’s Clinical Center is expected to receive medical equipment worth more than 250,000 euros from the Clinical Center of Pisa, the country’s Deputy Prime Minister Jelena Borovinić Bojović said during a meeting with a delegation from Italy’s Tuscany Region. The donation is intended for operating rooms and other needs, and is among the practical steps discussed to strengthen cooperation between the two healthcare systems.

The equipment is expected to arrive soon. The donation was agreed during Borovinić Bojović’s visit to Italy in October, which began an institutional dialogue continued by the delegation’s two-day visit to Montenegro. Borovinić Bojović said: “This cooperation, established during our visit to Tuscany, is now producing concrete results.”

Talks focused on implementing agreements reached in Florence and Pisa, including finalising a cooperation memorandum between Montenegro’s Ministry of Health and Italy’s Ministry of Health. Participants also discussed cooperation through the EU4Health programme and opportunities for professional training for medical staff.

Montenegro’s Health Minister Vojislav Šimun briefed the delegation on progress in the country’s healthcare system and the features of its health insurance and solidarity systems. The discussions also covered exchanging experience and healthcare organisation models, with Montenegro and Tuscany identifying shared interests because their areas are of comparable size.

The delegation was led by Italian Ambassador to Montenegro Laura Egoli and Senator Manuele Veskovi. It included doctors and professors from Meyer University Children’s Hospital and the University Hospital of Pisa. Tamara Tapušković, president of the board of the Clinical Center of Montenegro, and Montefarm director Aleksandar Bogavac also attended. The visitors toured Montefarm, where they were briefed on its history, organisation, recent development, digital transformation plans, standards and modernisation processes.

Šimun thanked the Clinical Center of Pisa for the equipment and Italy’s Health Ministry for its support and partnership. Montenegro and Tuscany said they intended to focus cooperation on knowledge transfer, training healthcare workers and improving the quality of patient care. Delegation members received certificates of appreciation for their readiness to cooperate and their contribution to closer ties between the countries’ healthcare systems.
