Work has begun on a 6.1 million euro wastewater upgrade in Mojkovac, covering sewer infrastructure and improvements to the treatment plant. The project is scheduled for completion by 2029 and is expected to improve municipal services while reducing pollution risk to the Tara River.
The works include separating the city’s stormwater and sewer networks, building sewer infrastructure in Podbišće, Juškovića Potok and Ambarine, and upgrading the wastewater treatment plant. Around eight kilometres of sewer network is planned in the suburban settlements; the improved plant is expected to serve more than 5,000 households.
Financing comprises a 2.9 million euro EU grant, approved in 2025 through the Western Balkans Investment Framework, and a 1.5 million euro loan from the European Investment Bank. State and municipal authorities will provide the remaining funds.
The construction consortium is JV Arikan Insaat Taahhut Ticaret ve Sanayi Anonim Sirketi and Karkanias Environmental Technology S.A. Italy’s IRD Engineering S.r.l is supervising the works, while PROCON is monitoring implementation.
Davor Kunc, head of the European Investment Bank’s representation for Montenegro, said the project would bring residents “cleaner water, a healthier environment and more reliable wastewater services”.
