Relations between Montenegro and the Netherlands are strong, but there is significant room for expanding cooperation, stated the Minister of Tourism, Simonida Kordić.
She met with the Dutch Ambassador to Montenegro, Martjin Elgersma, to discuss the potential that Montenegro offers, emphasizing the significant opportunity for investments, particularly in the northern part of the country, which is becoming increasingly popular among tourists.
“This region stands out, among other things, for its untouched nature and authentic food,” the statement reads.
Kordić specifically highlighted Montenegro’s goal to extend the tourist season year-round. In this context, she mentioned the development of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) and health tourism as opportunities to increase visitor numbers during the off-season months.
She also stressed the importance of sustainable development and the efforts of the Ministry of Tourism to diversify the tourism product.
Elgersma praised the example of cooperation in the exchange of tourism and hospitality students between Montenegro and the Netherlands.
He added that the Western Balkans should be more visible on the global tourism map, noting that interest in Montenegro is on the rise.
Elgersma also commended Montenegro’s efforts to improve its tourism offerings and emphasized the importance of further investment and promotion of the country as an attractive destination.
The meeting concluded with the recognition that tourism is an ideal bridge for connecting countries, as it overcomes many barriers. It was agreed that communication and cooperation in this field would continue, with a focus on joint initiatives that could contribute to the development of tourism in both countries.
