Montenegro’s micro and small enterprises, which make up 97% of its companies, need greater systemic support rather than additional charges, European Alliance MP Boris Mugoša said. His call also covers farmers and opposes further financial and other burdens on both groups. Improving the business environment must not involve new fiscal or parafiscal charges for smaller firms.
Micro and small enterprises employ a huge number of workers and should form the backbone of Montenegro’s economy. They have operated at a loss continuously for the past six years. Their sustainability needs serious consideration when announced decisions are made.
Farmers are highly vulnerable in terms of competitiveness, and any additional financial burden would significantly affect their ability to remain sustainable in the market. Both farmers and smaller businesses need to invest and improve their competitiveness to prepare for the European Union market and more demanding, complex competition. “Farmers and micro and small businesses need greater systemic support, not a further, fairly large burden,” Mugoša said.
University graduates should have opportunities to gain experience and knowledge in the private sector instead of further expanding public administration. On wages, the priority is to determine a realistic level for any genuinely necessary increase. Mugoša considers the complete abolition of pension and disability insurance (PIO) contributions absolutely unacceptable and wants major decisions made seriously and responsibly, without pre-election motives.
