The Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG) reported that payment systems processed 2.48 billion euros over 30 working days in September. The systems were available 100% of the time during the month.
RTGS accounted for 88.32% of the total value, DNS for 9.68% and IPS for 2%. RTGS settles individual transactions between participants on a gross basis in real time, while DNS processes interbank payments on a net basis with deferred settlement.
CBCG data recorded 1.5 million orders in September. RTGS handled 32% of them, DNS 57.9% and IPS 10.1%, the breakdown also given in the bank’s report. Average daily order volumes were 16,000 in RTGS, 28.99 thousand in DNS and 5.08 thousand in IPS.
The IPS system transfers money in seconds, around the clock and every day of the year, including weekends and state and religious holidays. It supports instant credit transfers of less than 3,000 euros and officially began operating at the end of July.
