According to the Statistical Office of Montenegro (MONSTAT), the annual consumer price inflation in Montenegro reached 2.9 percent in January 2026. This figure indicates a continuation of moderate inflationary pressures relative to prior months.
The consumer price index rose by 2.9 percent on a year-over-year basis, while monthly prices experienced a slight increase of 0.1 percent compared to December 2025. This annual rate reflects variations in the average costs of goods and services typically acquired by households.
The increase in prices during January was primarily influenced by higher costs in several categories, including tobacco, solid fuels, meat and meat products, fruit and nuts, as well as milk and dairy products, including eggs. Additionally, certain household maintenance services and bundled telecommunications services also contributed to the overall price growth.
Despite ongoing price increases, the January inflation rate suggests a relatively stable inflation environment when compared to the peaks observed in earlier periods. These inflation trends are significant for economic policy considerations, wage adjustments, and the purchasing power of households in Montenegro as the new year commences.
