Montenegro’s Minister of Economic Development, Nik Gjeloshaj, opposed the boycott of local companies, stating it would not improve the situation for citizens or the economy. He emphasized the importance of supporting local products and boosting domestic production to increase competitiveness. Gjeloshaj stressed that the goal should not be to shut down businesses or leave people unemployed.
Dragan Bokan, President of Voli Trade, responded to the boycott, defending his company as the largest agricultural and meat producer in Montenegro. He argued that the increase in prices was due to global factors and rising costs, not profit gouging. Bokan stated that the company’s margins are among the lowest in the region and warned that raising margins may be necessary to protect the business.
Both Gjeloshaj and Bokan emphasized the need for a balanced approach to improve the economy without resorting to populism or damaging the country’s businesses.
