Podgorica – China remains a strong cultural and economic partner of Montenegro and a supporter of its European path, it was assessed during the first official meeting between Finance Minister Aleksandar Damjanović and Chinese Ambassador Fan Kun.

The Ministry announced that at the meeting it was established that Montenegro and China inherit traditional friendship and have great potential for deepening relations, both in the economic, political and cultural domains.

Fan said that China has an open affection for our region, especially Montenegro, due to its comparative advantage, great development opportunities and strong cultural ties, which existed even in the period of the former Yugoslavia.

Damjanović thanked for the friendly relationship, adding that the two countries can jointly present important projects, such as infrastructure projects, for which the construction of the first section of the highway is an example.

He praised the expressed Interest in continuing cooperation, both in the construction of the remaining sections of the highway, new traffic, and projects from other areas, such as energy.

Fan reminded that China strongly supports the European path of Montenegro, which, as he assessed, does not contradict the parallel building of partnership relations between China and Montenegro.
The good relationship so far between two very different countries in terms of size, location and other geographical characteristics is proof that common goals and mutual understanding are the basic prerequisites for successful cooperation.

At the meeting, it was agreed to undertake the necessary activities in order to organize the sixth meeting of the Joint Commission for Economic and Trade Cooperation between the two countries, after a multi-year break.

Areas where cooperation could be further intensified are tourism, agriculture, energy, environmental protection and renewable energy sources, local media says.
